Lawrence has practised in the field of taxation for over 25 years. He specialises in advising and defending clients on tax issues associated with banking and securities, international and cross-border trades, transfer pricing, BEPS as well as audit and investigation. He regularly assists clients in resolving disputes (including potential disputes) with Hong Kong and overseas tax authorities, and does so favourably without resorting to litigation. He has acted as tax counsel in prospective listing on the Hong Kong stock exchange. Among the few legal publications on Hong Kong taxation, Lawrence is the current author of Butterworths Hong Kong Inland Revenue Handbook, the Annotated Ordinances of Hong Kong (Inland Revenue Ordinance), and the taxation volume of Lord Millett’s Hong Kong Encyclopaedia of Forms and Precedents. Prior to joining the Bar, Lawrence had practised taxation inhouse with international financial institutions. He was a member of the consulting team involved in ING Baring and Magna prior to their appeal. He read tax law and policies at Oxford where he achieved distinction, and the year’s second highest score, in subjects such as the Taxation of Corporate Finance.
